Aspiring cooks from BCHS joined schools across Lancashire to compete to win the coveted Young Chef of the Year title in a final cook‑off at Blackburn College.
Teams from six schools battled it out in the final, preparing mouth‑watering dishes to impress the judges, led by celebrity chef and Great British Menu judge, Lisa Goodwin‑Allen from Michelin‑starred Northcote Hotel and Restaurant.
Staged at the Scholars Restaurant and training kitchen at Blackburn College, two teams from Blackburn Central High School took to the finals, where they had to produce a chicken dish, using vegetables and potatoes, plus a dessert using fresh fruit.
We’re pleased to report that our students gained second spot in the finals, winning themselves a £100 voucher at a local restaurant, plus a trophy. The students were also interviewed by BBC Radio Lancashire – a great learning experience for them. Well done to all who took part.
