Oak Experiences

At BCHS we are proud to be part of Oak Learning Partnership – a multi-academy trust with schools across Blackburn with Darwen and Bury. Being part of the trust provides us with access to a wide range of opportunities, one of which is our Oak Experiences programme.

At BCHS, we want every student to leave school with memories that stay with them for life — experiences that inspire awe, joy and pride, and that help shape who they become. We believe these moments of excitement and discovery not only build character but also create a sense of belonging and positivity within our community.

Enriching education through experience

Our Oak Experiences give pupils the chance to enjoy those unforgettable “I’ll never forget when we…” moments. These include a variety of cultural and social experiences designed to broaden horizons and build confidence. Through this work, we aim to provide enriching opportunities that help every student thrive — both at BCHS and beyond.

This year we have used the funding from the Oak Experiences programme to pay for the year 11 prom, making it accessible for everyone. We also took year 7 pupils on a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry and paid for a company to arrange work experience placements for year 10 students so that they could get a taste of life in the workplace.
