Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s Family Hub is offering free winter lunches for those in need. Dates and venues can be found below. To register please phone 01254 585000 or drop in to one of the Family Hubs/Children’s Centres. Lunches are available from 11.30am-1pm on the following dates: Monday 30 December 2024 Tuesday 31  December 2024 Thursday 2 January 2025 Friday 3 January 2025 at the following venues: Family Hub Livesey Family Hub Darwen Family Hub Shadsworth Family Hub Little Harwood

Chef in the making

A student at Blackburn Central High School has secured himself a part time job with a renowned Michelin star chef. Sol, a year 11 hospitality student at BCHS, has aspirations to become a chef when he leaves school. To aid him on his career path, his hospitality teacher, Mr McCrone, has helped to secure him a part time job at The Three Fishes in Mitton, with Michelin star and Lancashire chef, Nigel Haworth. Nigel is a Blackburn lad who has worked in a variety of high-end food establishments, is a published author and has also won Master Chef: The Professionals.…

Attendance Matters

Attendance Matters At BCHS we place a lot of emphasis on good attendance because it underpins a child’s future achievement, self-confidence and aspiration. As a reward for 100% attendance over a six-week period last term, 30 children were selected at random to go on a fully funded trip to visit Manchester Science and Industry Museum, which included a visit to the highly anticipated Power Up exhibition. The experience was not only enriching but also incredibly fun, making it a memorable day for everyone involved. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Community Rail for funding the train travel for this trip.…

BCHS joins Oak Learning Partnership

We’re pleased to inform you that Blackburn Central High School has become part of a new multi academy trust called Oak Learning Partnership. Oak Learning Partnership has a number of mainstream and special schools in Bury and Blackburn with Darwen and shares our ethos that inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. The merger will see us become a much stronger trust with a wealth of skills and experience to share. As part of that merger students and staff will start to see new faces in school and slight changes to our branding and policies.

Record breaking results for GCSE students

Year 11 students were celebrating after receiving some amazing results in their GCSEs. We are thrilled to report that GCSE results day saw an improvement in results and progress score from last year and we must pay particular reference to our Urdu students, where we saw a record number of 12 grade 9s.
