Students come up trumps in prestigious maths competition
05/04/2023

Maths students from Blackburn Central High School (BCHS) have wowed staff after coming first and second place in a prestigious maths competition.

The year 10 students beat off stiff competition in the annual Maths Feast Challenge run by the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP).

The challenging competition, which was held last week at Burnley College, saw 18 teams from schools across the North West, vie for first place. Students went up against each other in four rounds of timed assessments with tests covering everything from simple arithmetic to geometry, algebra and code breaking. The BCHS students won both first and second place in the competition.

Miss Atikah Momoniat, Maths Teacher at BCHS, said: “The year 10 students were absolutely fantastic. They showed huge resilience throughout the rounds of intense competition and worked collaboratively as a team to demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills.

“All of the staff here at BCHS are very proud of the students for both taking part and then winning the competition.”
